TYROLISCH

Tyrol is international. And is mercilessly commercialised in many areas. With the beginning of local winter tourism and the commercialisation of summer resorts, the image of Tyrol in art has also changed. The typical depictions of Alfons Walde, a very lucrative and serial source of income, still appear today in a similar form with other artists, and Tyrol posters in advertising used the same subjects. Tyrol seems to have arrived in the new era. The coarse, stereotypical Tyrolean of 1809 is replaced by the newly created image, until it reappears with a wink in Paul Flora's work.

For this thematic group show, we have selected five contemporary artists with a wide variety of Tyrolean connections, who also deal with the cultural image of Tyrol in their work.

  • MAURIZIO BONATO (1953 Ala/Trento - Tyrol since 1973)
  • GEORG DIENZ (1964 Innsbruck - Berlin)
  • JIRI MAYER (1990 Trebic - Brno/CZ)
  • MARTIN PILSER (1951 Innsbruck - Innsbruck)
  • MELANIE THÖNI (1998 Zams - Vienna/Tyrol)
