Nox Latina

On 25 April, the Long Night of Antiquity will take place at several locations throughout Austria - from Vienna to Innsbruck. The Institute of Classical Philology and Neo-Latin Studies at the University of Innsbruck will also be taking part in this event. Its aim is to bring the world of antiquity to life in various ways and to make its survival and significance for our modern society and culture comprehensible. In Innsbruck, we will devote ourselves entirely to the Romans in a Nox Latina, where we will creatively engage with Latin as a spoken language as part of an open-air cinema in Latin. We will not only explore the question of how Julius Caesar would sound in Latin, but also Darth Vader or the Karate Kid. We want to take all fans of antiquity on a journey through famous film scenes from screen classics of various genres, which we have synchronised in Latin: Clips from Disney epics and blockbusters of recent years will be shown - from Barbie to Fifty Shades of Grey and Darth Vader to Karate Kid, there's something for all cinema preferences! Friends of Latin, cinema and simply anyone interested are cordially invited to spend an evening under the stars full of film magic with us on the terrace of the Ágnes-Heller-Haus in Innsbruck, where we will be showing one thing above all: Lingua Latina adhuc vivit.
