Franz Schubert

Mass Es-Dur, Franz Schubert
Te Deum, Antonín Dvořák
Soprano: Helene Gastl
Alto: Eva Schöler
Tenor: Jakob Nistler, Thomas Köll
Basso: Korbinian Schlag
Kammerorchester InnStrumenti
Choir: Collegium vocale Innsbruck
Conductor: Brigitte Wurzer
It is a fortunate coincidence that the Collegium vocale Innsbruck has been performing great choral works for 40 years. And it was probably an unfortunate coincidence that Franz Schubert barely lived to be older than 30. In 1828, the year of his death, he composed the last of his six Latin Masses, which combine the musical joy and melodiousness of his early work (Masses in F, G, B-flat, and C major) with his later "striving for the highest of art" (Masses in A-flat and E-flat major).
Antonín Dvořák (1841-1904) was one of Schubert's greatest admirers. His Te Deum, which he premiered in 1892 at Carnegie Hall in New York, is the second item on this evening's program.
