Choral music for Lent

...from darkness into light... Works by: Tomas Luis de Victoria, Orlando Gibbons, Robert White, Cecilia McDowall, Eriks Ešenvalds, Eric Whitacre and others. Every year, Easter reminds us of the central message of Christianity - liberation and redemption. In the run-up to this, the 40-day period of Lent invites us to reflect on ourselves and listen to the Word of God as a sign of repentance. In this context, themes such as the hardships of everyday life, despair, guilt and the great longing for a positive perspective in the here and now and even after our death have always inspired composers to write particularly expressive choral works. In two concerts, the vocal ensemble STIMMEN, together with the ensemble ROSARUM FLORES, would like to set the musical mood for this special time before Easter.
