ARTUR NIKODEM & CONTEMPORARIES

ARTUR NIKODEM & ZEITGENOSSEN
Drawing / Graphics / Painting
Alongside Alfons Walde and Albin Egger-Lienz, Artur Nikodem is one of the most important representatives of Tyrolean Modernism. His work, especially in the interwar period from 1920 onwards, had a significant stylistic influence on local artists. This period is characterised by his engagement with the new trends of the Munich scene in an artistic arc of tension with the tradition of Tyrolean landscape painting. In addition to the large and elaborate oil paintings, the spontaneous, sketch-like small format in drawing and painting plays an important role in Nikodem's working method. We are showing a series of small-format drawings and sketches which, with expressive strokes - like diary entries - captured the impressions he experienced on his numerous travels and mostly served as sketches of ideas for subsequent paintings. Two charming oil paintings, analogue in small format, are also represented. The exhibition is complemented by works by contemporaries and colleagues with whom Nikodem was in artistic dialogue or cultivated friendly relationships.

ERICH LECHLEITNER (1879 Innsbruck - 1959 Innsbruck)
RUDOLF NISSL (1870 Fügen - 1955 Munich)
ALBIN EGGER-LIENZ (1868 Stribach/Lienz - 1926 St. Justina/Bolzano)
