Wissen|schaf(f)t Gesundheit: Lp(a) - a common risk factor for heart attack & heart failure

"Wissen|schaf(f)t Gesundheit" is a series of lectures organized by the Medical University of Innsbruck. Doctors and researchers present the current state of research to an interested public in an understandable way.
Heart attacks and strokes can often come suddenly and unexpectedly for those affected and their families. However, we are now very well informed about important risk factors. In addition to high cholesterol levels, an elevated Lp(a) value is one of the most important genetic risk factors for these diseases. This "blood fat" is significantly elevated in one in five people and occurs more frequently in families.
In his lecture, Florian Kronenberg, Director of the Institute of Genetic Epidemiology, will explain what this Lp(a) is and why there are families in which several people are affected by elevated Lp(a) levels and why heart attacks, strokes, arterial occlusive diseases and aortic valve calcification occur more frequently than expected. In addition, the questions of how we can counteract this risk and what possible future therapies look like will be answered.
Free admission, no registration required, admission from 18:00 in the main lecture hall (Audimax). The lecture can also be followed as a livestream.
