EAT WELL by Sibylle Berg

Nerves are on edge: gay marriage, migration, organic vegetables, the euro crisis, feminism - controversial topics that are not only causing the regulars' tables and internet forums to shake. Here the admonitions of the politically correct, there the contradiction of the reaction: "You're still allowed to say that."
In this mixture of constant "Outrage!", a modern Everyman monologues in "Viel gut essen" while cooking a multi-course meal from the finest ingredients for his wife and son. White, heterosexual, middle-class, healthy and in his prime, he hasn't quite achieved what he expected professionally, hasn't quite started the family he hoped for, and now his neighborhood is also being gentrified and will probably soon be unaffordable. A frighteningly normal "loser" who, however, was promised to win at birth.
Sibylle Berg lets him rant, complain and argue about the state of our society, accompanied by a male choir that speaks "the people's voice" and becomes increasingly uncomfortable in the process. Zeitgeist cynic Berg's "Viel gut essen" is shameless and unsparing, cynical, provocative and as uproariously funny as it is deadly sad.
