Panel discussion: Permafrost and glacier melting

The melting of permafrost and glaciers is threatening safety in the Alpine region: this is particularly noticeable in mountain federal states and cantons such as Tyrol and Graubünden. Together with the state of Tyrol, the Swiss Embassy in Austria is organising an exciting panel event in Innsbruck on 15 May with perspectives from politics, science and business.

The panellists will be:

  • Anton Mattle, Governor of Tyrol
  • Elmar Rizzoli, Group Director of the Tyrolean Centre for Crisis and Disaster Management
  • Andrea Fischer, glacier researcher at the Austrian Academy of Sciences and Scientist of the Year 2023
  • Carmelia Maissen, Member of the Cantonal Government and Head of the Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Mobility of the Canton of Graubünden
  • Nora Saratz Cazin, Mayor of Pontresina

The discussion will be moderated by Barbara Schneider-Muntau, University of Innsbruck, Head of the Numerical and Experimental Soil Mechanics Working Group, Disaster Competence Network Austria (DCNA) Participation is free of charge, registration until 8 May 2024 at krisenmanagement@tirol.gv.at

This panel discussion is part of the event series "Focus Switzerland-Tyrol: Sustainable Alpine Region", which will take place in Innsbruck from 13 May 2024. The Swiss Embassy in Austria is looking forward to welcoming you to the public and free events.
