Leokadia Justman

It is a life story that evokes echoes of the Spielberg classic ‘Schindler's List’: After escaping from the Warsaw ghetto, Leokadia Justman's mother took it upon herself to be deported to a Nazi extermination camp in order to save her daughter's life. Together with her father, the young Polish woman finally managed to escape to Tyrol. From then on, she was able to survive the cruel persecution by the National Socialists under a false identity - not least thanks to the selfless intervention of several Tyrolean helpers. The new special exhibition ‘Leokadia Justman. Let's break out! A Polish Jew on the run in Tyrol’ at the Landhaus is based on Justman's autobiographical account - the first literary testimony of a Holocaust survivor from Tyrol.
