Innsbruck Winter Dance Festival 2025: Lágrimas Negras

The film tells the story of the Valdes family, who shaped Cuba's musical heritage over three generations. It illustrates the island's turmoil from 1920 to the present day. The fate of Bebo Valdes, who was never able to return to the island after fleeing in 1961, mirrors that of many Cuban families. His late musical comeback with Diego Cigala and son Chucho Valdes went down in music history. His grandson Cucurucho Valdes is now responsible for the live musical accompaniment of the dance theatre alongside Ray Fernandez. ‘I am very much looking forward to opening the second Innsbruck Winter Dance Festival with this piece. The incredible quality of the ensemble that we were able to engage again for this production, paired with the high-quality live music, is something a choreographer could only wish for’, says Enrique Gasa Valga, who has engaged 12 internationally renowned dancers (Limonada Dance Company) and a 7-piece live band for this world premiere.
