HELMUT CHRISTOF DEGN
In his third solo exhibition in our gallery, we are presenting the latest body of work by Innsbruck artist Helmut Christof Degn. The series 'Vom Unsichtbaren' is worked in egg tempera and oil on canvases of various formats and is attractively juxtaposed within the exhibition with some thematically selected drawings from an earlier period. Helmut Christof Degn comes from a family of artists, but consciously broke away from the tradition and formalism of previous generations at a very early stage and found his own independent, conceptually influenced form of artistic expression. Degn loves general freedom of thought, juggles with apparent opposites in his work and likes to explore the tipping point effect in his painting. He sees himself as a painter and 'naturalist'. In his current works, he is an artistic traveler who zooms into the inner world of the bark of a beech tree by the wayside, always in search of new, surprising structures.
