The silent language of art

Eugenie Bongs-Beer trained at the Düsseldorf State Academy of Art and at the Berlin Academy of Fine Arts and was also a master student at the Düsseldorf Academy of Art in the class of Professor Joseph Beuys. Painting and graphic art were only added to sculpture in the 1990s, triggered by commissions from the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. At the centre of her sculptural work is the energetic exchange between body and space. Rest and movement in dialogue experience a dynamic charge. The materiality of bronze reinforces this effect. In her paintings, the Tyrolean-born artist uses colour, stone and colour pigments to capture the space, the light, the air and its vibrations. She describes her non-representational landscapes of the soul as ‘inner landscapes’.
