Emilie Mayer Faust Overture for Orchestra op. 46
Max Bruch Concerto for Violin and Orchestra No. 1 in G minor op. 26
Intermission
Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Symphony No. 3 in A minor op. 56 Scottish
She is one of the exceptional talents to have emerged from the Venezuelan music promotion program El Sistema: Glass Marcano joined one of the youth orchestras as a child to play the violin, at 16 she discovered her passion for conducting, but was unable to afford an academic education and worked in her parents' fruit business until a fundraising campaign raised the money for her flight and participation in the El Maestra competition in Paris. For her, it was like escaping the poverty trap of Venezuela and entering a cultural paradise in Europe. She promptly won the orchestra prize at the Paris competition. The spirited natural talent launched a brilliant conducting career while still a student, which now also takes her to the podium of the TSOI. Glass Marcano will conduct a concert full of female power: with the fantastic Innsbruck concertmaster Annedore Oberborbeck, who will play the highly emotional First Violin Concerto by Max Bruch; and with the Faust Overture by the great German composer Emilie Mayer. The longing for paradise, evoked with musical sensitivity and intensity by the ardent Romantics Mayer and Bruch, runs through the program, which culminates in Mendelssohn's Scottish Symphony, inspired by a journey through the country, which leads from a sombre mood into heavenly, glowing hymns.
